GEOPRO: Understanding the fluid problems at Kizildere

Wed, 29 January, 2020

The future for exploration, prediction and utilisation of novel geothermal technologies is intimately tied to understanding the physical and chemical properties of the reservoir fluids. The GEOPRO project aims to improve the accuracy and consistency of key thermodynamic and kinetic input data, and the accuracy of the respective Equations of State, specifically in order to develop a verified set of robust, user friendly, flexible and accessible tools to optimise sustainable geothermal reservoir management, power and heat production and reinjection strategies.

“Our main concept is to work towards replacing costly, site specific, trial and error approaches in geothermal engineering by providing a set of tools to address current challenges in geothermal, like scale formation, degassing, bubble formation, two-phase flow and superhot and Exploratory Knowledge”

                                                                                              - GEOPRO Consortium

The tools introduced are aimed to be empirical opening the arena of truly representative understanding of the complex geochemistry of the fluids.

Field validation in Turkey

The geothermal industry has flourished immensely in Turkey, placing the country in the top four nations in terms of largest installed capacity.

Established in 1993  Zorlu Energy is an energy company that aims to operate on different fields of energy sector providing a global scale integrated service. Zorlu Enerji operates on various fields of the sector with its experience of 25 years. In their fields of operation, they are combining their well-established experience to make a difference among other players of the sector in engineering, supply construction, management, maintenance and repair. They provide alternative energy solutions on every field from solar energy to electricity vehicles, electricity power plants to charging units, from project development to management in a variety of fields.

We are utilising our high capacity production power, qualified human resources, well balanced portfolio, diversity of sources and capability of creating innovative solutions to be perpetual and leading part of the global energy transformation

                                                                                                         - Zorlu Enerji

The Turkish Zorlu energy group are now part of GEOPRO, demonstrating the complimentary strength of its consortium. The geothermal operation at Kizildere in Turkey will provide a classical mid to high-enthalpy geothermal system uses case with operational limitations due to high gas contents and scaling.
